Somehow or another, I managed to convince J to hit the Apple freak fan line for the iPhone 3G launch last Friday. It was a long wait but well worth it!

J wasn't quite, um... ready to face the morning ;)

The good folks from the Apple Store kept us hydrated.

As we inched toward technological bliss, the line behind us grew. There were over 600 people by 9:00!

Meanwhile, we received an update from Objective-F, our man in the trenches at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia where the scene looked even harrier.

A post-chicken-biscuit J, mentally accelerated from the MSG infusion.

Although we spent a considerable amount of time activating the phones due to AT&T's usual tomfoolery, the result was a happy Ol' Dad, an ecstatic Mama, a giddy Babycakes and a tickled yet bleary-eyed J ;)

We spent the rest of the day watching ourselves roam around the house via the built-in GPS ;)

The Royal Wii

Now that we have the Wii up and running again in the theater, Babycakes and J have kicked into full-on gamer mode! On any given evening, you can expect to find them going full-throttle with Need for Speed ProStreet.

Objective-F snapped this pic at the Moscone Center in San Francisco this evening, confirming rumors that the sun rises and sets in the Apple logo ;)

Madness At Moscone

Apple's 2008 World Wide Developer Conference kicked off today at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. In his keynote, Steve Jobs unveiled the upcoming iPhone 3G and 2.0 firmware.

iPhone 3G serves up the tunes.

Among a laundry list of cool new features, the iPhone 3G has hardware GPS and tracking, 3G (insanely fast) cellular network support, a swanktastic new shell, an iPhone app store and amazing looking push email, contacts and calendars a la MobileMe.

Objective-F, our man in the trenches at Moscone, has been feeding us daily reports of tech sessions and coder jibba-jabba. He also sent along some cool photos of the action.

Coders dig that dreamy high that only enriched white flour and high fructose corn syrup can provide. And people wonder why software crashes ;)

The Bracket Fairy came last week and helped us streamline the look of the main server.

We sequestered the G5 and wiring in the closet then flush mounted the Apple Cinema Display to the wall.

The G5 now resides in the closet along with the Epson AcuLaser and Stylus Pro printers.

Apple Time Capsule router/1 terabyte NAS, Apple AirPort ExpressNetgear gigabit switch, Speakercraft BB1265 amplifier and Panamax Max1000+ are now in stealth mode as well.

We like the rig for now but there are rumblings of rack-mounting the Speakercraft amp in the theater and perhaps upgrading the G5 to an eight processor (!) Mac Pro. Maybe when that other house finally sells...

Last week I swapped out the trusty Sunfire Theater Grand IV for an Onkyo Pro PR-SC885P. I've been hankering for HDMI switching, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD for when we get a Blu-Ray player. The Onkyo has 192k/24 bit Burr-Brown DACs on each channel, automatically sets up an acoustic profile of the room via Audyssey and is THX Ultra2 certified! You can read a more thorough review at UltimateAVMag.

Seventeen inches of rack-mountable swank.

The jury is still out on whether we'll go with the Playstation 3 or a dedicated player.
