July 2008 Archives

Today marked the arrival of DJ-P, J's friend extraordinaire from Germany. We were all psyched enough to forget about our Disney induced exhaustion. Playa Pimp came over before zee arrival to chill with some vino.

Somehow or another, I managed to convince J to hit the Apple freak fan line for the iPhone 3G launch last Friday. It was a long wait but well worth it!

The scene upon arrival at Barton Creek Mall.

ip2.jpg
J wasn't quite, um... ready to face the morning ;)

ip3.jpg
The good folks from the Apple Store kept us hydrated.

As we inched toward technological bliss, the line behind us grew. There were over 600 people by 9:00!

Meanwhile, we received an update from Objective-F, our man in the trenches at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia where the scene looked even harrier.

A post-chicken-biscuit J, mentally accelerated from the MSG infusion.

Although we spent a considerable amount of time activating the phones due to AT&T's usual tomfoolery, the result was a happy Ol' Dad, an ecstatic Mama, a giddy Babycakes and a tickled yet bleary-eyed J ;)

We spent the rest of the day watching ourselves roam around the house via the built-in GPS ;)

We spent the day on Lake Austin taking in the wonders of summer: bikinis, thongs and, er... I mean cloudless skies, beautiful sunsets and cold beer.

IMG_5290.jpg

IMG_5323.jpg
Whispy white clouds welcomed our arrival on the water.

IMG_5304.jpg
Babycakes steadied herself.

IMG_5287.jpg
J sunned herself.

After a suitable amount of relaxation, we decided it was time to scare the hell out of the kids with a good ol' fashioned boat-pullin'-somethin'-really-fast-fest.

IMG_5308.jpg
V and P were born to ride.

IMG_5315.jpg
Afterwards, V struck a manly pose. P waxed poetic.

IMG_5326.jpg
C was eager to hit it!

IMG_5328.jpg
Although Babycakes and P were enthralled by the action, action-junkie C merely yawned and took a quick nap.

IMG_5329.jpg
J-Box joined the fray!

IMG_5348.jpg
Ol' Dad and Mama got a feel for the waves.

IMG_5362.jpg
Ol' Dad let loose a mighty Texas "Yeeeeehaaaaa!" Mama clung to the raft with a Kung-Fu death grip ;)

IMG_5386.jpg
Mama gave the universal sign for "OMFG!!! I need a drink!!!"

IMG_5396.jpg
Doc E, J and T were all aflutter with anticipation ;)

IMG_5398.jpg
J busted out her first official "Yeeeeehaaaaa!"

IMG_5409.jpg
"Hey! No more cameras!"

IMG_5411.jpg
J needed a nap ;)

IMG_5412.jpg
The kids refueled with some good, ol' fashioned MSG ;)

IMG_5414.jpg
After suitable amounts of beer and Cheetos, it was time for swimming.

IMG_5417.jpg
P entered the water in style.

IMG_5426.jpg
After swimming, Ol' Dad, Babycakes and J decided to hit the waves again!

IMG_5454.jpg
No, J... you turn your head away from the water ;)

IMG_5477.jpg
A true Pisces, Babycakes contemplated the awesomeness that surrounded her.

And then it was time... for wakeboarding!

IMG_5482.jpg
J-Box beat the waves like they owed him money.

IMG_5488.jpg
DJ Dieter kicked it old school ;)

IMG_5502.jpg
Ol' Dad got... um... in over his head ;)

IMG_5507.jpg
Hey! J's got it!

IMG_5508.jpg
Uh... never mind ;)

Hot Air Party

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Trudging around in 104 degree weather can be more than a nuisance. It can be downright dangerous to your health! We invited some friends over on Saturday to help beat the summer heat.

IMG_5275.jpg
Step one: let your feet breathe.

IMG_5260.jpg
Step two: take off your bra while M silently observes in awe.

IMG_5257.jpg
Step three: participate in the nearest synchronized hair stroking event.

IMG_5265.jpg
The kids had fun on the the "jumpy thingy" ;)

IMG_5277.jpg
Macon Bacon seemed to be biding his time.

IMG_5279.jpg
H and G continued the conversation curbside.

IMG_5280.jpg
M tried to leave early but was stopped at the door when it was discovered that he couldn't feel his legs.
As most of you know, Ol' Dad and J like spiders about as much as Chinese Century Eggs. So it was with great delight that we staged a coup this week to pack up Fred and get him the hell out of here!

IMG_5249.jpg
A cautious J-Box blasts a cap over Fred's ass.

IMG_5253.jpg
No air holes required ;)

IMG_5254.jpg
"Do you hear that sound, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability... it is the sound of your death."

Fred was deposited up the road behind a fence. If he comes back, I guess it was just meant to be ;)

Living above Wild Basin has its advantages and disadvantages. Can you guess which this is? ;)

IMG_5224.jpg
"Hello. My name is Fred. I enjoy long moonlit walks and ripping the limbs from small arthropods. My hobbies are sucking blood and prompting onlookers into cardiac arrest."

Fred appears to have taken up residence on the rock wall just beyond our front porch. J is currently investigating which handgun to purchase.

Kölscher Shock

Ever since arriving in Austin, J has yearned for Köln area beer called Kölsch. Ol' Dad sampled Kölsch while he was in Germany for two weeks and fell in love. So when J's friend D came to visit and just happened to bring a few bottles of Kölsch, flags were raised, goats were slaughtered and the Tree house rejoiced.

Before diving head first into the Best Thing Ever, the crew made a pit stop at Texas Chili Parlor.

IMG_0157.jpg
You could hear D's tongue frying!

IMG_0155.jpg
The universal sign for "OMFG! That's H-O-T!"

After suitably torturing the newbie, it was back to Tree House for the real deal... Kölsch!

IMG_5235.jpg
It knows what you crave.

IMG_5226.jpg
Ol' Dad was flanked by Kölner coolness.

IMG_5230.jpg
J, Mama and D shared a moment of beer induced bliss.

Babycakes did what she does best ;)

Pond Alert

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
We had a major alert at the Tree House yesterday morning. Duncan, our friendly/goofy/sweet twelve year old Labrador Retriever was missing in action for breakfast! Anyone that knows Duncan understands his intimate relationship with food, so this was a big deal.

We assumed the worst, especially since tree house life involves coyotes and other things that go B-U-M-P in the night ;) We searched the entire lot down the ravine and up the other side to Der Gnome. We thought we'd either find him stuck somewhere or... worse :(

Luckily, after returning from a two hour search, he showed up in the driveway and trotted down to his room like nothing had happened. It turns out he had fallen into Lester's pond next door the night before. Lester found him crying and hungry and was kind enough to feed him and get him settled.

IMG_5213.jpg
"The last thing I remember was that bitch taking me to a rave..."

After the ordeal, Duncan was treated to a steak dinner and a round of cocktails. Then we sent him off to the Crossings spa for a bath, facial and a deep tissue massage. The results speak for themselves!

IMG_5244b.jpg
"Phew! That feels better!"

IMG_5245b.jpg
"Who's the man?!"

IMG_5247b.jpg
"That's right, baby!"
The good folks at Independence Brewery offer up free beer the first Saturday of every month. Regular readers understand that's a bargain that the Tree House crew just can't pass up ;)

IMG_0115 1.jpg
The day starts with a free tour which highlights where they stick people that cause problems.

IMG_0117.jpg
"You don't think they saw me fill up my glass, do you?!"

IMG_0118.jpg
The Austin S&M Society uses a similar piece of equipment for Torturous Tuesdays ;)

IMG_0119.jpg
Number 5's alive!

IMG_0140.jpg
The source from which the free beer flows. Note the traffic jam ;)

IMG_0138.jpg
"So what you're saying is... if I sit here long enough it'll be first Saturday again eventually? Sweet..."

IMG_0133.jpg
An awesome DJ served up the swankage the old school way.

IMG_0130.jpg
It's a bizarre quirk of physics... wherever there's free beer there tends to be a lot of people ;)

IMG_0129.jpg
Flash freezing helps when it's 105 degrees :)

IMG_0128.jpg
This place is great! Folks bring lawn chairs and arm wrestle for shade ;)

IMG_0126.jpg
Jasper, the brewery dog, made the rounds.

IMG_0144.jpg
A hapless would-be king slathers good ol' fashioned man-love on the Independence Pale Ale.
Independence Day just doesn't have the same panache as it used to. Maybe it's the ever increasing gas prices or the tumbling real estate prices that's dampening everyone's mood. But, hey, it's an excuse to blow up stuff and eat meat. And that's what America is all about... nowadays anyway ;)

IMG_5164.jpg
Nothing screams liberty like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

IMG_5163.jpg
Random sweetness can occur at anytime!

IMG_5165.jpg
Not yet... it'll be a few more minutes ;)

IMG_5183.jpg
The ladies love Ol' Dad ;)

IMG_5193.jpg
And so it begins!

IMG_5186.jpg
Aren't those Austria's colors? Oh well... fireworks must be expensive these days.

IMG_5182.jpg
I know what you're thinking... a French braid?! Hey, they helped us win the Revolutionary War and gave us the Statue of Liberty! Not to mention pommes frites, Perrier and the poodle ;)

Paella Party

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
We spent Saturday evening with T, J-Box, Docs E and L celebrating C's third birthday. J-Box whipped up a fabulous paella and we gladly helped make away with it ;)

El Diablo arrived in a stretch Hummer with his usual entourage.

IMG_4830.jpg
The party kicked off in the pool.

IMG_4831.jpg
Escape routes were planned... just in case ;)

IMG_4844.jpg
Mama was her usual perky self ;)

IMG_4856.jpg
J took refuge in the trees.

IMG_4875.jpg
"Now THAT'S a fire!!!"

IMG_4870.jpg
"No, no, no... just throw a blanket on him and roll him around a bit. He'll be fine."

IMG_4877.jpg
The paella equivalent of a spiral galaxy.

IMG_4878.jpg
Docs E and L steered the party in the right direction with the Smack-My-Ass-And-Call-Me-Sally Hustle.

IMG_4882.jpg
"Dude, it's all in the wrist..."

IMG_4892.jpg
"I'm tellin' ya... you gotta kick that squid up a notch... BAM!"

IMG_4894.jpg
While the adults drank, smacked each other's asses and set each other on fire, the kids struggled for their lives in the pool. CPS Summer Camp, here we come!

IMG_4904.jpg
Beer's gone? The paella must be done!

IMG_4909.jpg
J-Box illustrated where to put the hole.

IMG_4905.jpg
J-Box prepared for the mental and physical rigors of step two.

IMG_4911.jpg
Mmm... paella!

After dinner, C's birthday party kicked into full swing with a Thomas the Tank Engine piñata. The poor guy was ruthlessly pummeled by the kids.

IMG_4924.jpg
The first blow caught Thomas off guard!

IMG_4918.jpg
The second dazed him!

IMG_4923.jpg
The third knocked him senseless!

IMG_4916.jpg
The fourth knocked the breath out of him!

IMG_4928.jpg
C put on his war face and went in for the kill!

IMG_4931.jpg
Gut busted!

IMG_4933.jpg
Barbarism at its finest.

IMG_4935.jpg
On patrol for candy.

IMG_4937.jpg
Counting the loot.

IMG_4938.jpg
Conductor C!

IMG_4947.jpg
Forever young!

IMG_4948.jpg
Mmm... icing!

IMG_4950.jpg
"Um... fork please!"

IMG_4954.jpg
"Birthdays rock!"

IMG_4958.jpg
Mmm... glucose!

IMG_4964.jpg
Time for gifts!

IMG_4967.jpg
"Check this out, C!"

IMG_4968.jpg
It takes a village, yo.

IMG_4969.jpg
Two dudes contemplate the gnarliness.

IMG_4970.jpg
C wondered what he could possibly get into next.

IMG_4976.jpg
Guy behavior #371: stripping down and going for a drive!

After the kids were full of cake and wallowing in the tattered remnants of wrapping paper, the adults decided to continue their portion of the evening ;)

IMG_4944.jpg
Doc L (AKA DJ Dieter) got ready to kick it old school!

IMG_4963.jpg
"I claim this cake in the name of España!"

IMG_4972.jpg
"Really, guys... I'm fine to drive!"

IMG_4957.jpg
"Hey! Who put this damn fridge in the road?!"

IMG_4973.jpg
T brazenly mocked the open container law.

Doreen, our first visitor from Germany will arrive in five days!

Bild 011.jpg
We have received written notification from J that the pain of Germany's loss to Spain has faded. Thus, the Crew will return to its traditionally sporadic post schedule...

Needless to say, the loss came as a surprise to a lot of folks, particularly those living in a certain large and economically powerful continental European country. Although we here at the Tree House were quite depressed on The Worst Day Ever, as J has started referring to it, we somehow managed to plow through the darkness and emerge on the other side.

Obviously, there were quite a few, um... beverages involved ;)

IMG_4814.jpg
Before the match, J prepared the ceremonial Deutschland football attire ;)

IMG_4815.jpg
Babycakes was similarly equipped.

IMG_4997.jpg
The original deal was that the loser would eat the cake of the winning country. Yeah... that worked out well ;)

IMG_4998.jpg
Ol' Dad and the Tree House ladies got pimped out by the good folks at Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

IMG_4999.jpg
Initially, Playa Pimp got ready for war...

IMG_5001.jpg
... but then he decided he was a drinker, not a fighter ;)

IMG_5003.jpg
Ol' Dad had similar ambitions before he was snapped back to reality by J's Über-Deutscher-Kung-Fu-Death-Grip!

IMG_5008.jpg
Proof that violence does affect children... in a good way! ;)

IMG_5010.jpg
J and Babycakes plan their attack.

IMG_5013.jpg
The staples of any football party.

IMG_5014.jpg
Child rearing... the Tree House way.

IMG_5024.jpg
We almost lost Playa Pimp to spontaneous combustion.

IMG_5040.jpg
We don't have that many pictures of the game but Enrique Iglesias performed a great pre-match show... until Schweinsteiger sent him to the floor with a double kick to the groin.

IMG_5070.jpg
Post-Spanish-victory J.

IMG_5068.jpg
Umm... ditto ;)

IMG_5074.jpg
After carefully following all the post-match loss rules, J started to feel a bit better ;)

IMG_5078.jpg
As a matter of fact, some of the Crew got downright giggly ;)

IMG_5087.jpg
Despite the light atmosphere, J was quick to shut down any pro-Spanish sentiments ;)

IMG_5093.jpg
T was so excited she busted out some traditional Spanish gang symbols. She used J-Box as a prop, however, so as to avoid getting shot ;)

IMG_5121.jpg
A contemplative J-Box listening to the Miyagi within.

IMG_5130.jpg
"Whose house? Run's house!"

IMG_5147.jpg
Meanwhile, thirteen approaches quickly over Wild Basin.

A suitable summary of the day's events.
