April 2008 Archives

The Bracket Fairy came last week and helped us streamline the look of the main server.

We sequestered the G5 and wiring in the closet then flush mounted the Apple Cinema Display to the wall.

The G5 now resides in the closet along with the Epson AcuLaser and Stylus Pro printers.

Apple Time Capsule router/1 terabyte NAS, Apple AirPort ExpressNetgear gigabit switch, Speakercraft BB1265 amplifier and Panamax Max1000+ are now in stealth mode as well.

We like the rig for now but there are rumblings of rack-mounting the Speakercraft amp in the theater and perhaps upgrading the G5 to an eight processor (!) Mac Pro. Maybe when that other house finally sells...

New Preamp Lovefest

Last week I swapped out the trusty Sunfire Theater Grand IV for an Onkyo Pro PR-SC885P. I've been hankering for HDMI switching, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD for when we get a Blu-Ray player. The Onkyo has 192k/24 bit Burr-Brown DACs on each channel, automatically sets up an acoustic profile of the room via Audyssey and is THX Ultra2 certified! You can read a more thorough review at UltimateAVMag.

Seventeen inches of rack-mountable swank.

The jury is still out on whether we'll go with the Playstation 3 or a dedicated player.

The storm howls at night
A raging torrent unleashed
The crap floats idly

Ingredients:

spouts.jpg
Large quantity of water flowing through drain pipes.

drain.jpg
Steep incline serving as a drain.

lid.jpg
Slightly ajar septic tank lid.

Combine together and mix well until the tank alarm goes off in the wee hours of the morning.

Luckily for us, the pump wasn't affected by the lightning and managed to catch up a few days later. The tragedy was averted and more beer was purchased.

Sea Monkey Love

We've struggled with the best way to open this blog for the past several days. Well, here it is at last. A tale of mystery. A tale of intrigue. A tale of forbidden passion...

We've been carefully observing our Sea Monkeys sexual exploits. They seem to be very committed in their reproductive habits and are capable of keeping the action going for weeks at a time. One poor female has been swimming around with the male's dead carcass attached!

The magnificent splendor and glory of unbridled Sea Monkey passion.
